Best Practice Working with Clients in the Private Rental Market

Phase 1 of the Safer Homes project was successfully completed with extensive consultation with the sector, the Real Estate Industry, DCJ Housing and Subject Matter Experts. An evidence based model (program) has been approved by DCJ and in Phase 2 we will be developing the program, which has been designed for DVRE/SHS services to implement within their organisation, so as help facilitate the relationships with the local real estate agent and housing team/officer.

To do this the model provides a suite of tools and training and is structured into three main parts:

  1. Working with the real estate agency
  2. Supporting clients into private housing and helping clients to sustain tenancies
  3. Working with social housing providers (DCJ Housing or Social Housing Management Transfer Community Housing Providers (SHMT CHP) in whole of location transfer sites).

The second phase of the Safer Homes Project is developing these tools before testing across five pilot sites. We know from Phase 1, that a lot of services are doing some great work in this space, especially with supporting clients into the private rental market. To ensure that we capture all the best practice across the sector we would be very grateful if you would be willing to share any resources or materials that you have developed/ used that you have found useful.
