Registrations open today for Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) annual fundraising event, ‘Walk for Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre’. The 5-10 kilometre walk will be held on Thursday, 7th May 2020 to help kids living in crisis accommodation combat the effects of trauma and reach their full potential.
The Walk aims to raise $100,000 for WAGEC’s SEED Program to provide safety and support for kids living in their crisis accommodation with enriching activities and therapeutic interventions that address the impact of adverse childhood experiences.
“Children who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to be subject to it as adults,” says WAGEC CEO, Helen Silvia. “They have higher rates of social and emotional problems than other children, such as depression, low self-esteem and anxiety. By combatting the effects of trauma through our SEED program, we can help these kids reach their full potential and give them the tools they need to thrive and leave violence behind them for good.”
Registration is $20, which includes a T-shirt and entry to the Walk. Participants can register online at Eventbrite. The Walk starts at 10:00 AM, with participant and sponsor registration in Redfern Park beginning at 08:45AM.
