Family and domestic violence is the main reason women and children leave their homes in Australia. When a victim-survivor decides to leave an abusive relationship, it often means leaving their homes, friends, and communities.

For these women and children, access to housing that is secure, affordable and immediately available is a critical factor in their safety and recovery.

Last year, our advocacy work led to a NSW government investment to create 75 additional refuges over the next three years. While this will support women and children in those critical early weeks, it isn’t enough. We need to do more to ensure these same women and children have somewhere to live after crisis accommodation. The NSW Government only provided funding for 200 new homes last financial year, when there is a critical need for a minimum of 5,000.

We need your help to enable us to make sure this happens – because without it, they face an uncertain future. We advocate with decision makers and influencers – the people who have the power to make change. Please support us in this important work.

DVNSW receives minimal government funding which covers basic operational costs. For anything beyond this, we rely on the generosity of donors. Your donation will be fully tax-deductible. Your support is critical to help us amplify our voice to government to create more housing so women and children in NSW can live safely and free from violence.
