The team at DVNSW sends our thoughts to members of flood affected areas of NSW. We acknowledge that natural disasters are often followed by increases in the severity and number of cases of domestic and family violence, meaning already stretched services will be put under increased strain.

Below, we have curated a list of emergency support resources. 

Current list of evacuation orders

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has issued 55 evacuation orders across NSW. You can read them here. They have also prepared a factsheet on what to do when an Evacuation Warning is issued.

Storm and flood customer care service

For assistance for areas affected by severe storms and floods in NSW. This includes evacuation centres, weather advice and warnings, disaster assistance finder and a list of relevant resources. You can read it here.

Financial assistance

Residents affected by recent severe weather and storms may be eligible for a disaster relief grant. For a list of local government areas where disaster declarations have been made, visit Natural disaster declarations.

Australian Government relief payments include:

  • Disaster Recovery Payment – $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child if your home has been severely damaged or destroyed, or you’ve been seriously injured.
  • Disaster Recovery Allowance – short-term income assistance (up to 13 weeks) if you’ve lost income as a direct result of the floods.


Emergency food and clothing

The Australian Red CrossSalvosVinniesFoodbank and other community services can offer food relief, clothing, household items and other support.

Services Australia

Services Australia provides assistance during natural disaster events, and helps people directly affected by a natural disaster event, such as flooding, in disaster declared areas. More information here.
